This was the localizations’ attempt to make up for the fact that, in Japanese, her dialogue was all kanji, implying she was foreign. Here, we were introduced to Fujin’s odd habit of shouting all her brief dialogue. Speak of the devil and he appears: Seifer marched up right on cue, along with his friends, Fujin and Raijin, who made up the school’s disciplinary committee. Zell and Squall weren’t well associated, but Zell brought up Seifer, only for Quistis to reveal that he was their assigned squad leader.
I can’t find any additional credits for Chiyomori, but Sonoda seems to be a professional acrobat, with one more film credit to his name, either playing an acrobat or otherwise doing acrobatics in the 2003 film, Azumi. Zell’s next mocap actor is his action actor, Kouji Chiyomori, while his third actor, Houken Sonoda, was brought in solely to do the backflips we just saw in Zell’s intro. Morita also appeared as an unspecified mocap actor for Advent Children, but Tidus was his big break into voice acting, and he would go on to voice in Baccano!, Bleach, Dragon Ball Z as Whis, and in several sentai programs, presumably as monster voices. His main actor is Masakazu Morita, who went on to play Tidus, the lead character of FFX, as both Tidus’ mocap and voice actor! Morita doesn’t seem to have returned to mocap act as Tidus in later games, although he continues to voice Tidus to this day. Zell actually has three mocap actors, believe it or not. In Zell’s case, these attacks could be chained together into a long combo, with special “finisher attacks” that you can use at the end of your combo, so long as you fit it all in before a timer runs out! He was a Monk, and his Limit Break, Duel, used specific button inputs to launch attacks. Zell was a mechanical descendent of Sabin from FFVI. Zell proved to have about as much military discipline as a… well, Kyle put it better in a later scene, so I’ll wait on that, but let’s just say that he’s doing flips in the foyer as he reports for duty so… that.
Quistis announces the squad assignments for the exam, and we were put in a squad with someone named Zell Dincht. We soon had our uniform on and were meeting up with Quistis in the foyer for the big SeeD exam (curiously, we learn during this segment that Squall must have a roommate in his dorm, but Kyle tells me that we never meet them!). There was another mention about a sorceress, more about the Garden Festival, nothing worthwhile. We didn’t learn much of value in this second search of campus, honestly.
